Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Scientist I/Technician for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office, Columbia SC, or Greenville SC. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope

  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and potable water; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork

  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations

  • Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment

  • Gather and interpret chemical and non-chemical data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports, compile and organize environmental data collected by others

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques in specific situations

  • Prepare basic data and scientific documents Perform supervised field tasks, such as soil logging, monitoring well installation, sampling, testing, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, etc.

  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines

  • Recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Work outdoors at project sites a significant portion of the year

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, team engineers, and other staff

  • Ability to work independently, in a lone-worker environment. Must be situationally aware of ones surroundings. Working environments will include rural/wooded areas and/or around active manufacturing facilities, depending on project

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering)

  • 2-years relevant and practical experience

  • OSHAs Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40-hr

  • Must be willing and able to wear OSHA level D personal protective equipment ( ).

  • Proficient in standard office suite software applications

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Short term travel is required

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test, and background and credit check.

    Preferred Qualifications

    4+ years of relevant work experience
