Job Designation

The Supplier Development Engineer reports to The Group Head of Supplier Excellence supporting the Group Supplier Quality Manager(s) and the Procurement organization for Supplier Improvement and Development Activities, including the Supplier Zero Defect program. This is a hands on role and the Supplier Development Engineer will identify and drive projects to improve Delivery, Quality and Cost performance within the Supply Chain in order to provide benefits to Meggitt. The Supplier Development activities are focused on product and process performance for all Meggitt production including New Programs, Current Production and Legacy,providing the link between Group Quality, Procurement and Supplier interacting with all relevant functions as required. The Supplier Development Engineer will ensure the day to day project execution & coordination at the Supplier.

Knowledge and experience in Manufacturing Operations, along with proven expertisein the Quality Core Tools for Zero Defects improvement & quality system projects is essential (e.g. Lean manufacturing Techniques, APQP, PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D, SPC, MSA, CP etc.)

This is a remote position which will be based in GA.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct best practice containment actions as a first step
  • Conduct and review Supplier Manufacturing Process reviews and assessments
  • Drive open delivery & Quality issues at Suppliers to resolution using appropriate problem-solving tools
  • Develop Zero Defect plans to eliminate defects
  • Schedule and conduct reviews with Supplier & Procurement as required
  • Conduct capacity verification process and verify production trial runs
  • Drive capability (Ppk & Cpk)
  • Assist in the completion of flawless new product introduction
  • Support management meetings as required
  • Ensure governance is robust and timely
  • Carry out ZD and Core tool training as required

  • Job Specifications

    Education: Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
    Years Experience: 5 - 10 years of relevant experience
    Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of core Process Improvement and Zero Defect tools (i.e. DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP, APQP, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TAKT, 5Why, 8D, etc.)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Supplier Quality and Supply Chain Improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in multi-functional teams including Suppliers, Meggitt sites and or Meggitt Customers to deadlines and often under pressure
  • Thorough working knowledge of problem solving tools and techniques
  • Project Management, problem solving/resolution tools and techniques all within an aerospace or automotive environment
  • Conversant with the suite of Microsoft Office software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • HNC/D or degree (preferred but not essential), in a relevant discipline (engineering / manufacturing based)
  • PPAP experience including FAI
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques is an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of Aerospace regulations and requirements preferred (Automotive Industry standards and regulations are an acceptable alternative)
  • Preferred formal continuous improvement qualification (green or black belt)
  • Flexible and prepared to travel on a regular basis
